Prabhu Ramamoorthy/India/Sexual Assault

ICE agents apprehended Prabhu Ramamoorthy in Oxford, Wisconsin. The India illegal alien faces charges of sexual assault and is subject to federal immigration enforcement.

Cases of sexual assault involving illegal aliens routinely result in immediate federal immigration detention, with ICE placing holds that prevent release without immigration clearance. Local prosecutors handle the criminal aspect of the case, while immigration courts evaluate removal on a parallel track that continues even if the criminal case is resolved. The two proceedings move independently of each other.

Ramamoorthy has been placed in federal immigration detention and is scheduled to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. If ordered removed, Ramamoorthy would be deported to India.
