Donald Bertrand/Canada/Sexual Exploitation of Minor

Federal immigration agents arrested Donald Bertrand, a Canada national here illegally, in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, on charges of sexual exploitation of minor.

Sexual offenses involving minors carry some of the most severe penalties under state and federal law, including mandatory minimum sentences and lifetime sex offender registration requirements. For illegal aliens charged with crimes against children, the arrest simultaneously triggers criminal prosecution and a federal immigration removal proceeding that will continue regardless of the criminal outcome.

Bertrand remains in ICE custody pending a hearing before a federal immigration judge. If the court orders removal, Bertrand would be returned to Canada.
