This week’s 5 worst of the worst: Rapist, sexual abuser, and a genocide ringleader

This week, ICE agents across the U.S. arrested or charged some of the worst criminal aliens hiding in plain sight.

From war crimes to violent sexual assaults, these foreign nationals entered or remained in the country illegally—and endangered the communities around them. Here are five among the worst of the worst detained this past week.

Vincent Nzigiyimfura – Genocide ringleader in Ohio

ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit arrested 65-year-old Rwandan national Vincent Nzigiyimfura, pictured above, in Ohio. He’s accused of hiding his role in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, where he allegedly led coordinated attacks that left hundreds of Tutsi civilians dead. Convicted of genocide in absentia by a Rwandan court, he was indicted in the U.S. for immigration and naturalization fraud.

“No one wants a war criminal as their neighbor,” said HSI Detroit’s Angie Salazar. “We will never stop pursuing those who think they can hide from justice in our communities.”

Humberto Vargas-Lopez – Convicted rapist and violent felon

ICE New Orleans arrested Cuban national Humberto Vargas-Lopez after his release from prison in Nevada. He was convicted of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, battery with a deadly weapon, and drug crimes.

“I don’t have to let them out on my streets anymore, and I think that is a good thing,” said Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill, highlighting ICE’s critical role in keeping predators out of U.S. communities.

Alejandro Murillo – Serial sex offender conviction in Massachusetts

Costa Rican national Alejandro Murillo was arrested by ICE Boston after his convictions for rape, assault to rape, and multiple counts of indecent assault and battery in Essex County, MA.

“Murillo represents a significant threat to residents,” said Acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde. “ICE will continue to arrest and remove criminal alien offenders from our streets.”

Due Cong Vu – Sex assault conviction in Texas

A Vietnamese national, Vu was arrested by ICE Dallas following his conviction for sexual assault in Tarrant County, Texas. ICE has classified such offenders among “the worst of the worst” targeted for priority removal.

Nestor Bautista-Guillen – Sexual battery conviction in North Carolina

ICE Atlanta arrested Mexican national Nestor Bautista-Guillen after his conviction for sexual battery in Nash County, NC.

“By removing predators like this from our streets, we immediately improve public safety,” said ICE officials in a prior statement.
