DHS announces handful of illegals arrested in Michigan in recent weeks

Federal immigration enforcement this week highlighted some of the “worst” illegal immigrants arrested in Michigan this month, including two with extensive arrest records.

Among the five illegals arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were Amilcar Jose Suarez Barreto, a Venezuelan illegal arrested in Grand Rapids on Oct. 12.

Suarez Barreto has been arrested for felony armed robbery, four founts of assault, four counts of trespassing, two counts of property damage, and felony weapons possession. He’s also been arrested for shoplifting, larceny, resisting an officer, obstruction of justice, and violating electronic monitoring.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Suarez Barreto illegally entered the U.S. through Texas in July 2023, but released during the Biden administration and ordered for deportation in January 2025.

“Every day, the steadfast patriots of ICE are arresting and deporting illegal aliens from all across the country, including the beautiful state of Michigan,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. “In recent days, they’ve arrested armed robbers, scammers, and drunk drivers. At DHS, we will always enforce the law and protect the American people. Arresting and removing illegal aliens from our country is how we save lives and make America safe again.”

In Detroit, ICE arrested Sarah Jane Hulbert, an illegal from the Philippines, on Oct. 16. She has been convicted of “aggravated identity theft from $10,000 to $100,000 against a person 60 years or older” and domestic violence, and has been arrested in the past for four counts of forgery, harassment, obstructing police, and driving under the influence.

DHS said her criminal convictions happened after she came to the U.S. legally in 2004, making her “inadmissible.” She was detained during the Biden administration, but later released.

ICE also arrested both Kelvin Ramon Castillo Rodriguez, a Venezuelan illegal, and Elmer Domingo Lopez Tomas, a Guatemalan illegal, on Oct. 18 in Detroit. Castillo Rodriguez has been arrested for assault, while Lopez Tomas was arrested for a felony weapon offense.

Also in Grand Rapids, ICE arrested Venezuelan illegal Anderson Jesus Rosales Ramos on Oct. 16. He illegally entered the U.S. in 2023 through Texas, but was released during the Biden administration. He has a past arrest for retail fraud, DHS said.
