An illegal immigrant from Mexico has been indicted for murdering his own mother months after she was found dead in her Louisville, Kentucky, home.
The suspect, Braulio Sanchez Orozco, 24, initially told police and local reporters that he thought his mom’s boyfriend killed her. Orozco was arrested and charged earlier this month for her murder and abusing her corpse.
The victim, 44-year-old Maria Elena Sanchez Orozco, was found dead May 27 from “blunt force injuries” in her home in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood of Louisville.
Orozco reportedly called 911 and spoke to local news outlet WLKY the day she was found and blamed her boyfriend for killing her. He declined to speak on camera, but WLKY captured him sitting outside the home.
He now faces charges for murder [domestic violence], tampering with evidence, intimidating a witness and abuse of a corpse.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office listed Maria Orozco’s cause of death as “sharp force injuries.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said he lawfully entered the country on a temporary basis in April 2025 and “refused to depart.” He remained past his authorized stay, making him in violation of U.S. immigration laws.
According to WLKY, Orozco had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in July and was facing deportation.
He was being held at a correctional center in Mississippi but has since been transferred to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections following his indictment.
In a separate case out of Louisville, Kentucky, a 21-year-old Mexican national allegedly filmed himself raping a woman multiple times and now faces several charges.
The suspect, Adahi Alberto Alvarez-Diaz, was arrested more than nine months after the incident was first reported. Police said he recorded himself while raping a woman in Louisville, Kentucky, saving the video to his phone.
Alvarez-Diaz has been charged with two counts of rape – incapable of consent/physically helpless, according to court documents.

DHS officials said U.S. Border Patrol encountered Alvarez-Diaz July 29, 2023, after he illegally entered the country near Sasabe, Arizona. Sasabe is a remote area of Arizona about 1.5 hours southwest of Tucson and became one of the busiest crossing sites during the peak of the border crisis.
A month later he was released into the country by the Biden administration. Records show he has an additional criminal history of identity theft.
WHAS11 News reported the victim told University of Louisville Police she was “incapacitated” while Alvarez-Diaz had sexual intercourse with her and recorded it.
The alleged sexual assaults occurred Dec. 9, 2025. Alvarez-Diaz is accused of raping the victim twice within a few hours. He reportedly recorded himself and saved the videos on his phone, according to his arrest citation.
The victim found the videos on the suspect’s phone and contacted University of Louisville police. The victim knew the suspect, authorities said.
Police did specify if the alleged assault happened on UofL’s campus or if it involves any UofL students, WHAS11 reported.
Alvarez-Diaz was arrested last month in Tennessee and transferred to Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
