ICE searching for MS-13 gang member wanted for attempted murder, released from jail in Maryland

Federal authorities are on the hunt for a Honduran illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member wanted for attempted murder and sexually assaulting a minor in Maryland.

The suspect, Allan Adonay Contreras-Vasquez, was initially arrested in December 2025 and formally charged in February 2026 with several crimes, including attempted first-degree murder.

Within a matter of months, local authorities in Prince George’s County Maryland released Contreras-Vasquez twice from jail despite him being accused of two serious crimes.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also lodged an immigration detainer to keep him in custody, but it was ignored, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said.

A witness claimed that while Contreras-Vasquez was out of jail, he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in January 2026. He was arrested by Prince George’s County again in May 2026, and then released again in June 2026. He currently remains at large.

“This is just another example of how open borders and sanctuary policies have failed the American people,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. “First the Biden Administration released this illegal alien and MS-13 gang member into the country, then sanctuary politicians in Maryland released him AGAIN after he was arrested for attempted murder.”

According to DHS, Contreras-Vasquez illegally entered the United States through Texas in August 2023. He was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol and released into the country.

In December 2025, investigators identified Contreras-Vasquez and five other suspects involved in an alleged stabbing.

Contreras-Vasquez was arrested in connection with the violent assault in Hyattsville, Maryland, late last year. The victim was stalked after getting off a bus before being stabbed multiple times, authorities said.

On Dec. 16, 2025, ICE lodged a detainer against Contreras-Vasquez while he was in the custody of the Prince George’s County Detention Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Local authorities ignored the detainer and let him go.

On Feb. 18, 2026, Contreras-Vasquez was formally charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and dangerous weapon with intent to injure.

Between his release and formal charges being filed, a witness claimed that Contreras-Vasquez raped a 13-year-old girl in January 2026. Despite being arrested again in May 2026, he was let out of jail for a second time a month later.

“This shows the insanity of sanctuary policies that release violent criminals into American communities to create more innocent American victims,” Mullin said.

In another recent case highlighting failed sanctuary policies, an Empower rideshare driver named Abdoulaye Dia was arrested and charged in Montgomery County, Maryland, for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 17-year-old female passenger.

Dia is an illegal immigrant from Guinea who was caught and released at the Arizona border in 2023. Police in New York City had arrested Dia in June for alleged sexual abuse by forcible compulsion and sexual abuse without consent, but he was released from jail, DHS said.

Three months later, Dia was arrested again for sex crimes and now faces charges of first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault and third-degree sex offense in Maryland.
