On February 18, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 39-year-old Edwin Eli Maldonado-Paredes, a Honduran national, in San Antonio, Texas. On two occasions, Maldonado-Paredes had been removed from the United States and was again found to be unlawfully present. His arrest was carried out by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers during a targeted enforcement action.

According to ICE records, Maldonado-Paredes was first ordered removed by an immigration judge on October 12, 2012, and deported shortly after on October 24, 2012. He unlawfully reentered the U.S. on December 30, 2013. That entry triggered a reinstatement of the original removal order, and he was again deported on January 10, 2014.

Despite these removals, he managed to reenter the country once more. ICE officers discovered his presence during a routine enforcement operation. He was charged with reentry after removal, violating federal immigration law under 8 U.S.C. § 1326. If convicted, Maldonado-Paredes faces up to two years in federal prison.

His arrest is part of ongoing efforts to identify and remove individuals with repeated immigration violations. ICE officials highlighted the importance of pursuing repeat offenders to uphold the integrity of U.S. immigration laws. Maldonado-Paredes remains in custody pending legal proceedings in federal court.
