On February 27, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 31-year-old Honduran national Amilcar Josue Villalvir Mendez outside the Northampton County Prison in Easton, Penn. Villalvir, who is unlawfully present in the United States, was taken into custody after local officials failed to honor an ICE immigration detainer, resulting in his release from the facility before ICE’s arrival.

Villalvir has a criminal history that includes multiple offenses. In 2021, he was arrested by the Palmer Township Police Department for aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment related to a domestic disturbance. He later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to a term of six to 23 months in prison. After violating the original sentencing order, he was resentenced to one year to 23 months less two days.

He was also charged in February 2024 with access device fraud, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. The charges followed an incident in which he was seen withdrawing funds from the bank account of his deceased girlfriend just hours after she died of a drug overdose on October 29, 2023. He later pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking in Northampton County.

Following his release and rearrest, Villalvir was placed into ICE custody and is now awaiting removal proceedings.
