Abreu Ramon

Abreu Ramon/Dominican Republic/Drug Trafficking, Possession of a Controlled Substance

by G. George | July 21, 2025

ICE New Orleans deported Abreu Ramon, a citizen and national of the Dominican Republic, on July 11, 2025, following the completion of removal proceedings based on multiple felony drug convictions in the United States. According to ICE records, Ramon was convicted of drug trafficking in Massachusetts, a felony offense involving the illegal distribution or sale of controlled substances. He was sentenced to two years in prison for that offense.

In addition to his conviction in Massachusetts, Ramon was also convicted in New York for possession of a controlled substance, for which he received a five-year prison sentence. Possession convictions involving significant quantities or repeated offenses are often considered aggravated felonies under U.S. immigration law, especially when tied to drug trafficking. Both convictions played a role in his designation as a removable noncitizen.

Drug trafficking and related offenses are treated as serious crimes under immigration statutes due to their connections to public health risks, organized criminal activity, and community impact. Individuals with such convictions are subject to mandatory detention and are generally ineligible for relief from removal.

ICE did not release additional details regarding the specific types or quantities of controlled substances involved in Ramon’s convictions, or whether he had any further criminal or immigration violations beyond those listed. Following his incarceration, he was transferred into ICE custody and held pending removal. As of July 11, 2025, Ramon was deported to the Dominican Republic in accordance with his final order of removal.
