Jose Basulto/Mexico/First-Degree Burglary
On July 16, 2025, ICE San Diego officers arrested Jose Basulto, a 27-year-old citizen and national of Mexico, following his identification as a criminal illegal alien with a felony conviction. Basulto was previously convicted of first-degree burglary, a serious offense involving unlawful entry into an occupied structure with intent to commit a crime. He is currently in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
First-degree burglary is considered a crime of violence and an aggravated felony under U.S. immigration law. This type of conviction triggers mandatory detention and renders noncitizens ineligible for most forms of immigration relief, including asylum or adjustment of status. Due to the nature of the offense and the threat it poses to community safety, individuals convicted of burglary often face expedited removal.
ICE did not disclose the circumstances surrounding Basulto’s illegal entry into the United States or the jurisdiction in which the conviction occurred. However, based on his criminal history, the agency initiated enforcement action leading to his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and transferred to ICE detention where he will await an immigration hearing before a judge.
If ordered removed, Basulto will be deported to Mexico and barred from reentry under federal law. There are no additional charges pending against him at this time.
