Demetrio Hernandez/Mexico/Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin

On July 2025, ICE New Orleans arrested Demetrio Hernandez, a citizen of Mexico, who is illegally present in the United States. Hernandez was taken into custody following his conviction for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin—a felony drug trafficking offense that resulted in an 18-month federal prison sentence.

According to law enforcement records, Hernandez participated in a narcotics distribution operation involving heroin, a highly dangerous and addictive opioid. His conviction stemmed from a conspiracy charge, indicating that he worked in coordination with others to traffic illegal drugs within the United States. The offense is classified as a federal felony under U.S. drug laws and qualifies as an aggravated felony under immigration statutes, making Hernandez subject to mandatory removal.

Following his release from federal custody, ICE officers took Hernandez into immigration detention. He is currently being held pending removal proceedings and is expected to be deported to Mexico at the conclusion of those proceedings. Due to the severity of his conviction and illegal presence, he is not eligible for most forms of immigration relief.

ICE officials have confirmed that Hernandez’s arrest is consistent with ongoing enforcement efforts targeting individuals convicted of serious drug-related offenses. His case underscores the agency’s authority to detain and deport noncitizens who pose risks to public safety through narcotics distribution or trafficking.
