A Kenyan national and lawful permanent U.S. resident has been arrested in Buffalo and charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition following a joint investigation by federal and local law enforcement.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Buffalo Police Department arrested 29-year-old Aden Ibrahim on July 9 after responding to a complaint involving alleged drug activity and an unwelcome individual at a private residence.
Officers with the Buffalo Police Department arrived at the scene and spoke with the complainant, who identified the suspect only as “Beano.” The complainant claimed the man had drugs and a firearm and was refusing to leave. Officers then observed the individual exiting the home and attempting to flee. He was quickly apprehended and found carrying a U.S. permanent resident card identifying him as Ibrahim.
Detectives were called to the scene and located a revolver with tape on the handle lying in plain view on the bedroom floor. The complainant confirmed that Ibrahim had been staying in the room and that the firearm and other items belonged to him.
After securing a search warrant, investigators seized the revolver, multiple rounds of ammunition, approximately 26 grams of suspected crack cocaine base, and drug paraphernalia from the residence.
Ibrahim has two prior felony convictions: one in March 2022 for criminal possession of a weapon, and another in January 2024 for possession of a controlled substance. Due to those convictions, he is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
“HSI Buffalo is proud to collaborate with our local, state, and federal partners in Western New York to enhance public safety and national security through ongoing targeted criminal enforcement efforts,” said Homeland Security Investigations Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan. “We are committed to fostering strong partnerships that strengthen our community and safeguard our region.”
Following his arrest, Ibrahim appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge and was ordered detained. He is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further legal proceedings.
