Mateo Torres-Morales/Guatemala/Negligent Homicide
On January 28, 2025, ICE New Orleans arrested Mateo Torres-Morales, a citizen of Guatemala. Torres has been convicted of negligent homicide and sentenced to 16 months confinement.
Similar to Torres, on January 25, 2025, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested a 29-year-old Brazilian national during a targeted enforcement action in Waltham, Massachusetts. The individual had unlawfully entered the United States and was identified as a priority for arrest due to a serious criminal conviction in his home country. He had been convicted of manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle and was sentenced to four years, eight months, and 21 days in prison in Brazil.
Despite this sentence, the individual failed to report for incarceration and instead fled to the United States in an attempt to evade justice. ICE officers located him during a routine operation and took him into custody without incident. He was determined to be inadmissible to the United States and was issued administrative immigration charges upon arrest.
The subject was placed into removal proceedings and transferred to a local detention facility, where he remains in ICE custody pending deportation. His failure to comply with legal proceedings in his home country, combined with his unlawful presence in the U.S., led to his designation as a high-priority case for immigration enforcement.
