Jose Luis Sanchez-Lopez/Mexico/Evading Arrest, Attempted Possession or Transfer of a Stolen Vehicle

ICE arrested Jose Luis Sanchez-Lopez, a 38-year-old citizen of Mexico who is unlawfully present in the United States. According to law enforcement records, Sanchez-Lopez was recently taken into custody on state charges for evading arrest and driving without a license. His criminal history also includes prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and for attempting to possess, receive, or transfer a stolen vehicle. He was processed into immigration detention while his administrative case moves forward.

Evading arrest is charged when a person willfully fails to stop after being lawfully signaled by officers and attempts to avoid detention, often by fleeing on foot or driving away. Proof typically includes dash and body camera video, radio and dispatch logs, and witness statements that document the refusal to comply. Driving without a license is established through Department of Motor Vehicles records and officer testimony from the traffic stop.

The possession of a controlled substance conviction reflects unlawful control of a scheduled drug, commonly proved through laboratory testing and circumstances showing knowledge and dominion. The attempted possession or transfer of a stolen vehicle conviction documents an effort to obtain or pass a vehicle known, or that should have been known, to be stolen; evidence in such cases often includes altered ignition components, tampered identification numbers, and statements tying the defendant to planned transfers.

Following his apprehension, ICE completed biometric identity verification, compiled certified court records, and initiated removal proceedings before an immigration judge. Sanchez-Lopez remains detained pending further hearings and any required travel documentation should a removal order be executed.
