Edvin Giovanni Ceron-Reyes, 37, an illegal alien and Guatemalan citizen, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Cumberland, Maryland, on March 31, after he was transferred to ICE custody by the Western Correctional Facility. Ceron has been convicted of attempted first-degree murder.

“The apprehension of this convicted attempted murderer demonstrates the critical role that immigration enforcement plays in protecting our communities,” said ICE Baltimore Acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker. “Thanks to an honored immigration detainer, this dangerous criminal alien was safely transferred into ICE custody instead of being released back into the public. ICE Baltimore remains steadfast in our commitment to enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and prioritizing public safety.”

Ceron entered the United States illegally on an unknown date at an unknown location.

The Howard County Police Department arrested and charged Ceron with attempted first-degree murder July 7, 2011. On that same day, ICE Baltimore lodged an immigration detainer with the Howard County Detention Center. The Circuit Court for Howard County convicted Ceron of two counts of attempted first-degree murder Jan. 19, 2012, and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Ceron was issued a final order of removal order Sept. 13, 2013. The Western Correctional Institution transferred custody of Ceron to ICE Baltimore March 31, where he will remain in ICE custody pending deportation to Guatemala.
