by G. George | September 05, 2026

Mexican national Luis Soto Gutierrez was arrested in Allegan, Michigan, on marijuana and assault charges after officers responded to a disturbance involving suspected gang activity. According to regional gang intelligence, Surenos (Sur-13) members have been active in parts of Michigan, where they are linked to street-level drug distribution, including marijuana sales, and violent confrontations with rivals. Investigators in Allegan reported that Gutierrez, identified with Surenos gang affiliation, was found with marijuana while officers were breaking up a fight in which a victim alleged he had been assaulted.

Following his arrest in Allegan, Gutierrez was booked into local custody on assault and marijuana-related counts, with gang affiliation noted in charging and booking records. Prosecutors will review whether to seek enhanced penalties in light of the gang association, and as a Mexican national with an alleged Surenos connection, he could face immigration consequences if convicted.
