Blue state governors continue crusade to protect illegal immigrants, ignore victims of crime

While the Trump administration works to remove criminal illegal aliens from the streets, Democratic governors are one upping each other over efforts to tax the rich and protect illegal immigrants.

New Jersey’s newly elected Democrat Gov. Mikie Sherrill has rolled out the welcome mat to criminal illegal aliens, declaring the entire state of New Jersey a “sanctuary” state.

Sherrill signed a three-bill package last week that imposes sweeping restrictions on police interaction with federal immigration authorities. A separate law bans officers, including federal agents, from concealing their identity with masks.

Sherrill is taking a cue from her Democratic colleagues, all of whom seem to be going to outrageous lengths to pander to constituents who can’t even vote—at least not yet.

With Sherrill’s signing of the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Act, she has put protections in place to harbor illegal immigrants from the feds, let them walk free if they commit a crime, and shut down law enforcement cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

GOP leaders in the state have called the legislation “insane” and held a rally to protest the preposterous legislation. “Every single one of them is more crazy than the next,” said Assemblyman Paul Kanitra, R-Ocean, who organized the rally.

This week in neighboring New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul joined her fellow Blue State governors, Gov. Tim Walz in Minnesota and Gov. Gavin Newsom in California, in escalating federal corruption probes tied to taxpayer-funded social services and migrant programs.

Federal prosecutors announced an investigation into whether a New York City councilmember and her sister, a top aide to Gov. Kathy Hochul, accepted bribes or kickbacks tied to city funding steered to a migrant shelter provider, according to a search warrant obtained by The Associated Press.

The investigation involves BHRAGS Home Care Inc., a Brooklyn nonprofit that expanded into emergency shelter services for asylum seekers and illegal migrants who flooded New York City. The agency received more than a dozen contracts worth upward of $200 million from the city’s Department of Homeless Services, Fox News Digital reported.

In Virginia, Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger campaigned as a moderate but quickly introduced a slew of proposals to raise taxes and end state cooperation with ICE.

Spanberger spent her first day in office in January 2026 rescinding an executive order that allowed 287(g) agreements between Virginia state agencies and ICE.

In recent months, Virginia, and particularly Fairfax County, has been in the news for egregious assaults, including the murder of a mother at a bus stop by an illegal who was let out of jail to reoffend and reports that a Salvadoran national allegedly groped several teenage girls in the hallways at Fairfax High School.

The family of the bus stop victim, 41-year-old Stephanie Minter, has called for change and accountability, pressing politicians to keep violent offenders off the streets.

Angel families keep crying out for justice and common-sense laws—and asking why American families don’t matter.

“The politics created the environment that had Katie killed, and that’s what Illinois voters need to know,” Joe Abraham, who lost his daughter in a hit-and-run DUI crash caused by an illegal immigrant, said in an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Night in America”.

“The guy, he should not have been here, and that’s the bottom line. So, when you talk about, ‘he will find justice’ — there’s no such thing, and that’s what they don’t understand. These are preventable.”

Meanwhile, Sherrill, Spanberger and two-term Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker are either callous and tone deaf or bought and paid for by billionaire backers. They seem to think they’re scoring political points—the question remains with who—by protecting illegals at the expense of American citizens.

The message was loud and clear following the death of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, who was shot in the back on March 19 while walking with friends on a pier in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Police later identified the masked suspect as Jose G. Medina-Medina, 25, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, who entered the U.S. under President Joe Biden and was arrested for shoplifting in Chicago in 2023.

Gorman’s death has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media, as well as Illinois’ sanctuary politicians. The White House posted a clip from Monday’s press briefing on X:

“As Democrats continue to defund the agency responsible for protecting Americans, the mainstream media hardly covered the tragic death of Sheridan Gorman — killed by an illegal alien. Sheridan Gorman’s life was worth FAR more than 23 seconds on cable television.”

Her grieving family broke down in tears at a public memorial service Saturday in her hometown of Yorktown, New York, while Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson appeared at a No Kings rally.

“We have [to] end the assaults against immigrants,” Johnson said on MSNBC during the “No Kings” protest in Chicago per Fox News. “…We have signed multiple executive orders to force ICE out of the city of Chicago.”

Joe Abraham, the father of Katie Abraham, railed on the Democrats, adding, “And what they also need to know is, God forbid, if anything happens to them, their state — just like they did with Katie and me — will turn their backs on you as quick as possible, and they will erase you, and they will make you disappear because our story is inconvenient,” he told “Sunday Night in America” host Trey Gowdy.

Abraham accused Pritzker of defending illegal immigrants “regardless of the situation,” yet flip-flopping when confronted with his horrible policy failures.

“He is a person that will never stand behind his policies,” Abraham said of Pritzker. “He deflects, he deceives, and he is never going to tell the truth to the Illinois voters. Never.”

Time will tell if Sherrill’s legislation will turn out as well as other deep blue states—if she’ll master the art of deflection when faced with the deaths of young New Jerseyans, and her own Sheridan Gorman and Katie Abraham.
