Luis Sanchez-Chavez
Luis Sanchez-Chavez/Mexico/Homicide
On April 23, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers arrested Luis Sanchez-Chavez, a 31-year-old Mexican national illegally present in the United States. Sanchez-Chavez was taken into custody in Colorado and identified as a person of interest in an active homicide investigation being conducted in Teller County.
Local authorities had flagged Sanchez-Chavez during the course of the investigation into the killing, prompting ICE to coordinate with the Teller County Sheriff’s Office to apprehend him. His immigration status was confirmed to be unlawful, with no applications for relief or legal status on file. ERO officers arrested him without incident and transported him to a secure detention facility.
Sanchez-Chavez’s suspected involvement in a violent crime, combined with his illegal presence in the U.S., placed him as a high-priority enforcement case. ICE confirmed that removal proceedings have been initiated, and Sanchez-Chavez will remain in custody throughout the legal process. While he has not yet been formally charged in the homicide case, ICE is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to ensure his availability for any future criminal prosecution.
He currently awaits his immigration court hearing while investigative efforts related to the homicide case continue.
