Abdul Waris Akinsanya/Nigeria/Forgery, Conspiracy to Defraud

by G. George | July 31, 2025

On July 16, 2025, ICE Dallas arrested Abdul Waris Akinsanya, a 28-year-old citizen of Nigeria, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Akinsanya is unlawfully present in the United States and has been convicted of multiple crimes, including forgery, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and fleeing law enforcement in a vehicle. He is currently in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

His conviction for conspiracy to defraud the United States is classified as a federal offense and reflects an intent to exploit U.S. systems through fraudulent means. The forgery charge further demonstrates a deliberate effort to deceive, while his attempt to flee from law enforcement by vehicle underscores a disregard for public safety and legal authority.

ICE has not disclosed how or when Akinsanya entered the country, but due to the serious nature of his convictions, he was prioritized for enforcement and arrested without incident. He has been transferred to an ICE detention facility and will remain in custody throughout his immigration case.

Akinsanya will face an immigration judge who will determine the outcome of his removal proceedings. Based on the nature of his criminal record, he is unlikely to qualify for relief and is expected to be deported to Nigeria following adjudication.
