Agustin Negrete-Raya, a 44-year-old citizen of Mexico, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Caldwell, Idaho. Negrete-Raya is unlawfully present in the United States and has a criminal history that includes convictions for attempted petit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. His criminal conduct and lack of legal status brought him to the attention of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.

Negrete-Raya had previously been encountered by law enforcement in Idaho for offenses involving theft and drug-related activity. After serving his sentence on the state-level charges, immigration authorities took custody of him to initiate removal proceedings. ICE officers confirmed that Negrete-Raya had no lawful immigration status and had not obtained any relief or protection that would allow him to remain in the United States.

Due to the nature of his criminal record and his unauthorized presence in the country, he will remain in ICE custody while his case moves forward through the immigration court system. His detention aligns with federal enforcement guidelines prioritizing individuals with convictions or multiple encounters with law enforcement.

ICE has stated that removal proceedings will continue in accordance with standard legal procedures, and Negrete-Raya will be subject to deportation once all legal requirements are met.
