by G. George | July 17, 2025

ICE New Orleans arrested Alejandro Saturnino, a citizen and national of Mexico, on July 11, 2025, following his identification as a removable noncitizen due to a federal conviction related to human smuggling. According to ICE records, Saturnino was convicted of aiding and abetting the transportation of illegal aliens for financial gain, a felony offense under federal law. His conviction involved knowingly assisting in the movement of noncitizens unlawfully present in the United States with the intent to profit from the activity. As a result, he was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison.

Human smuggling offenses are prosecuted under laws aimed at preventing the exploitation of migrants and safeguarding U.S. border security. Aiding and abetting charges typically indicate a supporting role in a broader smuggling operation, such as providing transportation, logistical coordination, or shelter. Offenses involving financial gain are considered especially serious due to the potential for repeated, organized activity and increased risk to the individuals being transported.

ICE has not released further information regarding the number of individuals involved in the smuggling incident, the location of Saturnino’s arrest, or whether he has additional criminal history. Following the completion of his prison sentence, Saturnino was taken into ICE custody. As of the latest report, he remains detained pending further immigration proceedings to determine his future status in the United States.
