Angel Garcia-Plata
Angel Garcia-Plata/Mexico/Assault, DWI
Angel Garcia-Plata, a citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien in the United States, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his April 19 arrest by local law enforcement. Garcia-Plata was taken into custody by local authorities for assault on a peace officer and driving while intoxicated (DWI), both considered serious offenses. Due to his illegal presence in the U.S. and his recent criminal activity, ICE issued an immigration detainer to take custody upon his release from local jail.
Garcia-Plata had no legal status to remain in the United States, and records show he entered the country illegally on an unknown date. The incident involving assault on law enforcement raised the case’s priority for enforcement action. After confirming his identity and unlawful status, ICE officers took custody of Garcia-Plata and began the process of placing him in formal immigration proceedings.
Assaulting a peace officer while also being charged with DWI reflects a pattern of disregard for public safety and U.S. laws. These charges can carry criminal consequences and also serve as grounds for removal under immigration law. Garcia-Plata will remain in ICE custody at a detention facility while his immigration case is reviewed by an immigration judge.
ICE has initiated the appropriate legal process to pursue his removal. If ordered removed and found ineligible for any relief, he will be deported to Mexico once proceedings conclude.
