February 19, 2025

On February 17th, 2025, ICE Atlanta arrested Arab Ali-Mohamed (Pictured), a citizen of Ethiopia. Ali-Mohamed has been convicted of homicide and sentenced to 185 months in prison.

In addition, in January 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Mezemr Abebe Belayneh, a 65-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Ethiopia, residing in Snellville, Georgia. He is accused of participating in human rights abuses during Ethiopia’s Red Terror in the late 1970s, a period marked by political violence and persecution.

Authorities claim that Belayneh concealed his involvement in these abuses to fraudulently obtain U.S. citizenship. An investigation revealed that he provided false information during the naturalization process. Consequently, he has been charged with immigration fraud and is currently awaiting legal proceedings.

Belayneh’s case highlights the ongoing scrutiny of alleged human rights violators residing in the U.S. and the legal consequences of concealing such histories.
