Indiana authorities have charged 41-year-old truck driver Borko Stankovic after he allegedly caused a fatal multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 20 near Portage while operating a semi-truck without a valid commercial driver’s license. Investigators say he steered into oncoming traffic to pass a stopped van, striking a Subaru Crosstrek head-on and killing 54-year-old Jeffrey Eberly at the scene.

Court filings state that Stankovic was driving a commercial truck despite having no CDL of his own and carrying a suspended CDL that belonged to a family member. Prosecutors have charged him with felony reckless homicide and felony criminal recklessness resulting in death, while ICE lodged a detainer after determining his nonimmigrant visa expired in February 2011 and that he has been living in the U.S. illegally ever since. Records also note a 2018 Long Island arrest for resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, but current proceedings center on the Indiana fatality and his unlawful immigration status.
