Carlos Reyes-Mundo/Mexico/Cartel Involvement

by G. George | May 07, 2025

Carlos Reyes-Mundo, a 27-year-old Mexican national, was arrested on April 30, 2025, in Chicago by federal law enforcement officers during the same operation that led to the apprehension of his brother, Jose Antonio Reyes-Mundo. Authorities confirmed that Carlos is also unlawfully present in the United States.

Unlike his brother, Carlos does not currently face criminal charges in Mexico, but federal authorities are investigating his potential links to criminal activity, including cartel involvement. His proximity to and association with a wanted cartel member raised significant concerns during the operation, prompting ICE to take him into custody on administrative immigration charges.

Carlos Reyes-Mundo is currently detained and undergoing removal proceedings. ICE officials are reviewing his immigration and criminal background as part of the ongoing investigation. His case is being handled in accordance with U.S. immigration law and coordinated with Mexican authorities.

While no formal charges have been filed against Carlos in his home country, his detention ensures that any risks he may pose are mitigated while further assessments are made. His immigration status alone warranted ICE’s involvement and subsequent detention.
