Celso Francisco Guarchaj-Perechu, a 36-year-old illegal alien from Guatemala, was arrested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans. Guarchaj-Perechu has a documented criminal history in the United States that includes a conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) and an arrest for eluding law enforcement. His unlawful presence combined with these offenses led to targeted enforcement action by ICE officers.

The DUI conviction stemmed from an incident in which Guarchaj-Perechu was stopped by local authorities and found to be operating a vehicle while impaired, endangering others on the road. In a separate encounter, he was arrested for attempting to flee from law enforcement during a routine traffic stop, demonstrating a clear disregard for police authority. These offenses were reported to federal immigration authorities, triggering a review of his immigration status.

Guarchaj-Perechu was determined to be in the United States unlawfully. ICE officers located and arrested him without incident. He is currently in ICE custody pending removal proceedings before a federal immigration judge. His previous criminal behavior and illegal reentry into the U.S. without inspection were considered aggravating factors in his detention.

ICE continues to identify and take custody of individuals with criminal records who are in violation of federal immigration laws.
