On July 29, 2025, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested Charles Alvaro Loja-Lojano, an Ecuadoran national illegally present in the United States. Loja-Lojano was taken into custody in New London, Connecticut, following multiple arrests by local authorities for serious criminal behavior involving family violence and endangerment.

Loja-Lojano’s criminal history includes several arrests for charges such as risk of injury to a child, strangulation/suffocation, interfering with an emergency call, violating a protective order, and disorderly conduct. The risk of injury to a child charge reflects alleged behavior that put a minor in significant danger. The charge of interfering with an emergency call indicates an attempt to prevent a victim from seeking help, further compounding the severity of his offenses. His history also includes strangulation, which is a dangerous act of control often associated with domestic violence.

ICE placed an immigration detainer on Loja-Lojano due to his criminal activity and unlawful presence in the U.S. He will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings. ICE officials have confirmed that Loja-Lojano is subject to removal from the country based on his unlawful entry and public safety risk posed by his prior offenses.
