Darvin Mendez-Barrios
Darvin Mendez-Barrios/Guatemala/Aggravated Assault
Darvin Mendez-Barrios, a 34-year-old citizen of Guatemala and an illegal alien in the United States, was arrested by ICE Denver following a review of his criminal history and immigration status. Mendez-Barrios has multiple convictions that triggered immigration enforcement actions, including charges for menacing and aggravated assault on a police officer—both serious offenses that raised concern for public safety.
His conviction for menacing involved threatening behavior that placed others in fear of immediate bodily harm. In a separate incident, Mendez-Barrios was convicted of aggravated assault on a peace officer, a felony offense that involved either the use or threat of violence against law enforcement. These convictions demonstrate a pattern of violent conduct and disregard for authority.
ICE agents located Mendez-Barrios in Colorado and took him into custody without incident. A background investigation confirmed he was in the country illegally and had no legal authorization to remain in the U.S. Based on the severity of his convictions and prior immigration violations, ICE placed him in detention to await immigration court proceedings.
Mendez-Barrios will be held in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal hearing. If ordered deported by an immigration judge, ICE will coordinate with Guatemalan authorities to arrange his return. He is currently being held at a detention facility in Colorado while those proceedings are underway.
