In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver arrested David Calderon Monrreal, a 50-year-old Mexican national illegally present in the United States. Monrreal was taken into custody following his release from local custody in Colorado, where he faces serious criminal charges related to narcotics and firearms offenses.
According to law enforcement officials, Monrreal was arrested earlier this year during an investigation that uncovered approximately $85,000 worth of illegal pills, suspected to include fentanyl and other controlled substances. During the same operation, officers also recovered a prohibited firearm in Monrreal’s possession, which he was not legally allowed to own due to his immigration status and prior history.
Monrreal’s arrest marked the culmination of a broader investigation into drug trafficking operations in the region. Following the seizure, he was charged with multiple counts related to drug distribution and firearm possession. Once local authorities completed their initial proceedings, ERO Denver officers assumed custody of Monrreal under immigration enforcement authority.
At the time of his ICE arrest, Monrreal had no lawful status in the United States and no applications for immigration relief. He has since been placed into removal proceedings and remains detained at a secure ICE facility in Colorado. Removal coordination is underway with Mexican authorities.
