Devit-Beckham Dumitru, a citizen of Romania and an illegal alien present in the United States, was taken into custody by ICE San Antonio officers following his recent arrest for driving while intoxicated. Dumitru’s case reflects ICE’s ongoing focus on identifying individuals whose conduct threatens public safety and who lack lawful immigration status.

According to arrest reports, Dumitru was apprehended by local law enforcement in Texas after being stopped for erratic driving. Upon investigation, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol, leading to his arrest for DWI. Driving while intoxicated is a significant public safety concern because it places innocent motorists and pedestrians at considerable risk, particularly when carried out by individuals already violating U.S. immigration laws.

Records indicate that Dumitru has no lawful status permitting him to remain in the United States, making him subject to immigration enforcement action. Following his arrest by local authorities, ICE officers lodged an immigration detainer, ensuring that Dumitru was transferred to ICE custody once his local charges were addressed.

Dumitru has now been placed in immigration proceedings, during which an immigration judge will determine whether he should be removed from the country. In the meantime, he will remain detained in ICE custody to prevent further risk to the community and to ensure compliance with immigration proceedings.

ICE officials emphasized that individuals who engage in criminal conduct, especially offenses like DWI, undermine community safety and will face immigration consequences. Dumitru’s case serves as another example of efforts to hold criminal aliens accountable under U.S. law.
