Donggin Shin/South Korea/DUI

ICE Denver arrested Donggin Shin, 37, a citizen of South Korea who is unlawfully present in the United States. Records indicate he has lived in the country without status for more than 25 years and holds a conviction for driving under the influence. Officers located Shin in the Denver area, effected the arrest without incident, and transferred him to an ICE facility for intake and detention while the administrative case moves forward before an immigration judge.

A DUI conviction is entered when prosecutors prove a person operated a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Typical evidence includes standardized field sobriety tests, chemical analyses, officer observations, and dash or body camera recordings. Sentencing can involve jail time, fines, license restrictions, treatment requirements, and ignition interlock conditions, with penalties escalating for aggravating factors or prior incidents. The certified judgment from Shin’s case forms part of the immigration record considered during custody and removability determinations.

During intake, officials verified Shin’s identity through biometrics, reviewed his immigration history, and compiled certified copies of the DUI conviction and any related court documents. He will remain in ICE custody while removal proceedings are scheduled, including service of charging documents, custody review, and hearings before the immigration judge. Any state obligations connected to the prior DUI conviction proceed on a separate track and are reflected in the immigration file as required by law.

If a final order of removal is issued, ICE will coordinate necessary travel documentation with the receiving government and arrange transportation under standard procedures. Until then, detention continues under the current custody determination applicable to noncitizens with recent criminal histories and long term unlawful presence.
