Douglas Alfaro Benitez/Honduras/Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence, Child Neglect
On July 16, 2025, ICE New Orleans arrested Douglas Alfaro Benitez, a citizen and national of Honduras, after identifying him as an illegal alien with a significant criminal record. Benitez has accumulated at least eight criminal convictions in the United States, including aggravated assault with a weapon, two separate charges of domestic violence, driving under the influence, and hit and run. Additional convictions include false imprisonment, child neglect, resisting an officer, and obstructing police.
The charge of aggravated assault with a weapon is classified as a violent felony under U.S. immigration law and serves as an automatic ground for removal. His repeated convictions for domestic violence and endangerment-related offenses further demonstrate a sustained pattern of criminal behavior that jeopardizes public safety and violates the terms of lawful presence. Crimes involving child neglect, unlawful restraint, and obstruction of law enforcement reflect escalating disregard for legal authority and community welfare.
ICE has not disclosed the specific dates or jurisdictions of Benitez’s convictions, nor how long he has been residing unlawfully in the United States. However, given the quantity and seriousness of his criminal history, Benitez became a priority for enforcement. He was taken into ICE custody without incident and is currently being held pending immigration proceedings.
An immigration judge will evaluate his case, but due to his extensive criminal record—including multiple violent and endangering offenses—Benitez is expected to be found ineligible for immigration relief and ordered removed from the United States.
