Eder Martinez-Barrera
Eder Martinez-Barrera/Guatemala/Wildlife Trafficking
Eder Martinez-Barrera, a 34-year-old citizen of Guatemala, was deported by ERO New Orleans after being identified as a foreign fugitive wanted in his home country. Martinez-Barrera is wanted by Guatemalan law enforcement authorities for crimes related to wildlife trafficking. According to foreign arrest warrants and official reports from Guatemalan authorities, Martinez-Barrera had been under investigation for his involvement in the illegal capture, trade, and exploitation of protected wildlife species in Guatemala’s rural regions.
He had entered the United States illegally and was located during an enforcement operation carried out by ERO officers in the southern region. Following his arrest, ICE officers confirmed his identity and fugitive status in collaboration with Guatemalan law enforcement agencies and Interpol. Martinez-Barrera did not have a lawful immigration status in the United States and had no pending asylum or relief claims that would prevent his removal.
He was placed in ICE custody and processed for removal as a priority case due to the nature of his foreign charges. Martinez-Barrera was deported via commercial aircraft and transferred to Guatemalan authorities upon arrival. His removal is part of ICE’s ongoing collaboration with international partners to identify and return fugitives facing criminal prosecution abroad.
