Emmanual Paredes-Ariza, a 39-year-old citizen of Mexico, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers with the Salt Lake City Field Office. Paredes-Ariza is illegally present in the United States and has a serious criminal history that includes multiple convictions and a prior removal from the country.

According to ICE officials, Paredes-Ariza was previously convicted in Utah of attempted sexual abuse of a child, rape, and harboring a minor without permission. These charges resulted in significant sentencing and were documented by local authorities. His criminal activity and immigration status led to his prior removal from the United States, but Paredes-Ariza subsequently re-entered the country unlawfully.

ICE agents located and apprehended him during a targeted enforcement action aimed at identifying and detaining noncitizens with serious criminal records and prior removals. Following his arrest, he was transferred to federal detention and served with a notice of prosecution for illegal reentry under 8 USC 1326.

Paredes-Ariza remains in ICE custody and is currently being referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah for prosecution. ICE has confirmed that he will remain detained without bond while awaiting the outcome of the federal case and any subsequent immigration proceedings.
