Erick Josue Vasquez Mateo
Erick Josue Vasquez Mateo/Guatemala/Violence Against Women
On July 18, 2025, ICE El Paso removed Erick Josue Vasquez Mateo, a 21-year-old citizen of Guatemala, and transferred him to Guatemalan law enforcement authorities upon arrival in Guatemala City. Vasquez Mateo was subject to a final order of removal from the United States and was wanted in his home country on outstanding criminal charges related to violence against women.
Guatemalan officials had issued a warrant for Vasquez Mateo due to his alleged involvement in crimes of gender-based violence, which led to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers prioritizing his deportation. Although the specific details of his offenses in Guatemala remain undisclosed, the severity of the charges warranted international cooperation to ensure his return to face justice.
Prior to removal, Vasquez Mateo was held in ICE custody pending travel arrangements. His removal was executed without incident and he was turned over directly to Guatemalan authorities upon landing. Vasquez Mateo is now in the custody of Guatemalan officials and is expected to be prosecuted under that country’s laws.
