Felipe Adrian Hernandez-Del Angel/Mexico/Aggravated Assault w/ a Deadly Weapon
In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Houston arrested Felipe Adrian Hernandez-Del Angel, a Mexican national who had been living in the United States without legal status. He was taken into ICE custody shortly after completing a state prison sentence for a violent felony conviction in Smith County, Texas.
Hernandez-Del Angel was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a 2023 incident in which he used a firearm during a physical altercation. According to reports, the altercation resulted in injuries to the victim, and responding officers recovered the weapon at the scene. He was arrested and charged under Texas state law, then later sentenced to serve time in state custody.
Due to his undocumented status and felony conviction, ICE lodged a detainer requesting notification of his release. Smith County officials honored the request, allowing ERO Houston officers to take him into custody immediately upon the completion of his sentence. ICE officials confirmed that Hernandez-Del Angel had previously been encountered by immigration authorities but failed to follow through on scheduled immigration court appearances.
Hernandez-Del Angel is now being held at an ICE detention center in Texas and remains in custody pending removal proceedings. An immigration judge is expected to move forward with formal removal based on his criminal record and previous failure to comply with immigration requirements.
