Gladys Leticia Bustamente-Rios/Honduras/Assault, Child Crimes
ICE officers arrested Honduran national Gladys Leticia Bustamente-Rios, a criminal illegal alien previously convicted of assault and a family offense, during a targeted operation on November 9. She originally crossed the border illegally in 1997, was prosecuted and sentenced to five years in prison for the assault case, and then placed in immigration proceedings.
In August 1998, an immigration judge ordered her removed and permanently barred her from reentering the United States, and she was deported on July 30, 1999. Despite that lifetime ban, Bustamente-Rios later returned unlawfully, committing the federal felony of illegal reentry after removal.
She will remain in ICE custody pending removal to Honduras, where she will no longer be able to hide in U.S. communities.
