by G. George | July 05, 2025

Hector Rosvel Torres-Mendoza, 44, a citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien present in the United States, was arrested by ICE Harlingen officers due to his repeated violations of U.S. law and history of violent criminal behavior. Torres-Mendoza has been previously convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a serious felony offense that involved the use or threat of lethal force against another individual. His conduct placed public safety at direct risk and warranted removal from the country.

Torres-Mendoza also has a prior conviction under 8 USC § 1325 for illegal entry, confirming that he had unlawfully entered the United States and was formally processed through the immigration court system. Following his prior removal, he again reentered the country illegally—an offense that now subjects him to new criminal charges under 8 USC § 1326 for illegal reentry after removal, a federal felony.

At the time of his arrest, Torres-Mendoza had no lawful status in the United States and no pending immigration benefit applications. ICE officers apprehended him without incident, and he is currently in ICE custody pending both immigration and federal criminal proceedings. His reentry into the U.S. after prior deportation, combined with his violent criminal past, makes him a clear enforcement priority. ICE officials have confirmed that Torres-Mendoza will remain detained as his removal case advances.
