Similar to Ortiz, on January 28, 2025, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans arrested 32-year-old Guatemalan national María Elena López during a targeted enforcement action in Louisiana. López had unlawfully reentered the United States after a prior deportation and was identified as a high-priority target due to her criminal history.
According to federal records, López was previously convicted in Louisiana for child abuse and sentenced to 24 months’ probation. Additionally, she had two prior convictions for illegal reentry after deportation, resulting in sentences of 36 months and 30 months of incarceration, respectively. Despite these convictions and removals, López reentered the U.S. without authorization. ICE officers located her during a routine enforcement action and took her into custody without incident.
Upon arrest, López was issued an I-871 Notice of Intent/Decision to Reinstate Prior Order of Removal, citing her previous deportations and illegal reentries as violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act. She is currently detained at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile, Louisiana, pending removal proceedings. Due to the severity of her criminal convictions and repeated immigration violations, López is considered a high-priority case for enforcement and removal.
