Henry Talai Tolu/New Zealand/Theft

ICE Salt Lake City arrested Henry Talai Tolu, a citizen of New Zealand and an illegal alien in the United States. Tolu was encountered during targeted enforcement operations focused on foreign nationals with criminal convictions and immigration violations. According to ICE records, Tolu entered the U.S. legally but failed to depart when required, thereby violating the terms of his admission and becoming unlawfully present.

Tolu has a criminal conviction for retail theft, which is considered a crime involving moral turpitude under immigration law. His conviction, combined with his unlawful presence, makes him removable from the United States. ICE officers confirmed that Tolu had not taken any steps to adjust his immigration status or apply for legal relief.

Following his arrest, Tolu was placed into immigration detention and issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge. He will remain in ICE custody throughout the course of his removal proceedings. Officials have stated that, based on current case details, Tolu does not qualify for any immigration relief and may be subject to expedited removal.

His case is pending with the Executive Office for Immigration Review. If removal is ordered, ICE will coordinate with authorities in New Zealand for his return.
