Higinio Osorio-Huerta/Mexico/Child Sexual Assault
In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago arrested Higinio Osorio-Huerta, a Mexican national with a felony conviction for child sexual assault in Boone County, Illinois. Osorio-Huerta was taken into custody by ERO officers shortly after completing his sentence in state custody and is now being held in ICE detention pending removal proceedings.
Osorio-Huerta was convicted following a criminal investigation that revealed he had sexually assaulted a minor known to him. The assault led to his arrest and prosecution under Illinois law, where he was found guilty and sentenced to a term in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Due to the nature of the offense, Osorio-Huerta was also required to register as a sex offender.
ICE became aware of Osorio-Huerta’s immigration status during the criminal proceedings and lodged an immigration detainer with Boone County authorities. The detainer ensured that he would be transferred to ICE custody immediately upon release from prison. ICE officials confirmed that Osorio-Huerta had no legal status in the United States and had not filed any pending applications for relief.
He is currently held at a secure ICE detention facility in Illinois. An immigration judge is expected to review his case and move forward with formal removal proceedings. Based on the seriousness of his conviction and his unlawful presence, Osorio-Huerta will remain in federal custody until his case is resolved and arrangements are made for his deportation to Mexico.
