Hilario Gonzalez-Maurico/Guatemala/Indecency with a Child

In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Atlanta arrested Hilario Gonzalez-Maurico, a Guatemalan national with a prior felony conviction for indecency with a child. Gonzalez-Maurico was taken into custody in North Carolina following his release from local custody in Wake County, where he had served time for offenses involving child victims.

According to court records, Gonzalez-Maurico was convicted on two counts of indecency with a child in Wake County, stemming from incidents reported in 2022. The victims were under the age of 14, and the charges involved inappropriate sexual contact and exposure. After his arrest, a forensic interview and supporting testimony from family members led to a successful prosecution. Gonzalez-Maurico was sentenced to serve time in a state correctional facility and was registered as a sex offender upon release.

Due to his undocumented status and the nature of his convictions, ICE lodged a detainer with Wake County officials in advance of his release. Once his sentence was completed, Gonzalez-Maurico was transferred to ICE custody without incident. He had previously been ordered removed from the United States in 2021 after failing to appear in immigration court, and that order has since been reinstated.

He is currently being held at a federal detention center in Georgia and remains in ICE custody pending deportation to Guatemala.
