Hoang Anh Tran/Vietnam/Assault with Intent to Murder
In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Francisco arrested Hoang Anh Tran, a Vietnamese national with multiple serious felony convictions in Santa Clara County, California. Tran was taken into ICE custody following his release from state prison, where he had served time for a combination of violent and firearm-related offenses.
Tran’s criminal history includes convictions for burglary, assault with intent to commit murder, and illegal possession of a firearm. Authorities linked him to a 2018 incident in which he forcibly entered a private residence and attacked an occupant with a weapon, resulting in serious injuries. He was also found in possession of an unregistered firearm at the time of arrest. Prosecutors secured multiple felony convictions, and Tran received a significant prison sentence in California state court.
While serving his sentence, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Upon completion of his sentence, Tran was transferred into ICE custody without incident. He had no lawful immigration status at the time of his arrest and had previously overstayed a temporary visa.
Tran is currently being held at an ICE detention facility in Northern California and will remain in federal custody pending removal proceedings. ICE officials have confirmed that he is subject to a final order of removal due to the severity of his convictions and his unlawful presence in the United States.
