Jaime Villegas-Mendez
Jaime Villegas-Mendez/Mexico/Possession of Methamphetamine
Jaime Villegas-Mendez, a 36-year-old citizen of Mexico and an illegal alien in the United States, was arrested by ICE New Orleans officers following his arrest by local authorities for felony possession of amphetamines. The arrest occurred in early June after Villegas-Mendez was taken into custody in Louisiana during a traffic stop that led to the discovery of narcotics in his possession.
According to local law enforcement records, Villegas-Mendez was found with a significant quantity of amphetamines consistent with personal use and potential distribution. He was charged with felony drug possession and detained in the parish jail pending further proceedings. ICE placed a detainer on Villegas-Mendez, and upon completion of the local case, he was transferred to federal immigration custody.
An investigation by ICE officers confirmed that Villegas-Mendez is unlawfully present in the U.S. and had no pending legal applications that would allow him to remain in the country. He had previously entered the U.S. illegally near the southwest border and had not made any efforts to regularize his immigration status.
Villegas-Mendez remains in ICE custody at a Louisiana detention facility while his immigration proceedings are pending. A Notice to Appear has been issued, and an immigration judge will determine whether he is eligible for any relief or will be removed from the United States.
