Jairo Collazo Cardoza/Mexico/Dangerous Drugs

ICE agents apprehended Jairo Collazo Cardoza in Waco, Texas. The Mexico illegal alien faces charges of dangerous drugs and is subject to federal immigration enforcement.

State drug charges and federal immigration enforcement frequently run on overlapping but independent timelines. Drug arrests involving individuals in the country illegally are a consistent contact point between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities who use such arrests to identify individuals subject to removal. Both the criminal case and the removal proceeding are now fully underway.

Cardoza has been placed in federal immigration detention and is scheduled to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. If ordered removed, Cardoza would be deported to Mexico.
