Jashanpreet Singh/India/Gross Vehicular Manslaughter, Reckless Driving
ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Los Angeles lodged an immigration arrest detainer for Jashanpreet Singh, a criminal illegal alien from India linked to a deadly freeway crash in San Bernardino County, California. Singh was driving a semi‑truck on Interstate 10 when he failed to slow for stopped traffic, triggering an eight‑vehicle pileup that killed three people and injured several others.
Local prosecutors initially charged Singh with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, based on eyewitness accounts and dash camera footage of the collision. Toxicology tests later led to adjustment of the DUI allegations, but he still faces multiple counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and reckless driving in connection with the fatal crash.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Singh entered the United States illegally through the southern border in 2022 and was released into the country pending immigration proceedings. He now remains in local custody with an ICE detainer ensuring transfer to federal immigration authorities if released.
