Jasson Canas
Jasson Canas/El Salvador/Sexual Assault
In May 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans deported Jasson Canas, a Salvadoran national with a felony conviction for sexual assault. Canas was removed from the United States following the completion of his prison sentence and immigration proceedings. His deportation was carried out by ERO officers and coordinated with Salvadoran authorities.
Canas was originally convicted in Texas in connection with a 2021 case involving sexual assault. He was arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced under state law. After serving his sentence in a Texas correctional facility, he was transferred to ICE custody for immigration processing. Canas was also required to register as an offender based on his conviction.
Due to his unlawful presence in the United States and the nature of his offense, ICE initiated removal proceedings. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal in 2023, which was executed after the completion of his criminal sentence. Canas did not seek any legal relief from removal and remained in federal custody until his departure.
On May 2025, ERO officers escorted Canas on a flight to El Salvador, where he was handed over to Salvadoran officials. Under U.S. immigration law, his conviction and prior immigration history permanently bar him from returning to the country.
