Javier Lopez-Santons/Mexico/Assault

On April 23, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver arrested Javier Lopez-Santons, a 52-year-old Mexican national with a serious criminal record, including convictions for assault and drugging a victim. Lopez-Santons is a registered sex offender and has no lawful status in the United States.

ICE officers took Lopez-Santons into custody following coordination with local authorities after confirming his identity and immigration status. His past offenses, particularly involving violence and drugging a victim, led to his classification as a sex offender under state law. These crimes, combined with his continued presence in the country without legal authorization, made him a high-priority enforcement target.

According to ICE, Lopez-Santons has not filed any pending applications for immigration relief. His arrest marks part of an effort to identify and detain noncitizens with criminal records that pose threats to community safety. He was transported to a secure ICE detention facility, where he is being held pending removal proceedings before an immigration judge.

ERO has initiated formal proceedings to remove Lopez-Santons from the United States. The case will proceed through the immigration court system, and he will remain detained throughout the legal process.
