Jel Ajith Machar Deng/Sudan/Aggravated Assault with a Weapon, DUI

by G. George | September 04, 2025

ICE New Orleans arrested Jel Ajith Machar Deng, a citizen of Sudan and an illegal alien in the United States, based on a criminal history that includes two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, a conviction for driving under the influence, resisting an officer, simple assault, disorderly conduct, failure to appear, and a probation violation. The aggravated assault counts indicate incidents where a weapon was used or displayed during violent confrontations. The DUI conviction documents impaired operation of a vehicle, while resisting an officer reflects attempts to obstruct or evade lawful arrest.

The additional simple assault and disorderly conduct offenses show further episodes of confrontational behavior. A recorded failure to appear and a probation violation demonstrate noncompliance with court orders and supervision terms that were imposed in prior matters.

Following his apprehension, Deng was booked into immigration custody. He will remain detained while immigration proceedings are conducted, including identity confirmation, review of the criminal record, and adjudication before an immigration judge. Any travel arrangements will be made only if a removal order is issued, after coordination of documentation with the receiving government is complete. No further details are being released at this time regarding potential criminal dispositions outside the immigration case.
