On May 14, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Brentwood, New York, arrested Jeremias Benites Vasquez, a 39-year-old citizen of El Salvador, during a targeted enforcement operation. Benites Vasquez had previously been deported from the United States and later reentered the country unlawfully. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop and issued a notice of intent to reinstate his prior removal order.

Benites Vasquez has a significant criminal history. On March 20, 2025, he was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse involving a victim under the age of 13, where the offender was 21 years or older. His conviction followed his March 2024 arrest on multiple charges, including sexual assault, carnal abuse, and committing lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. The abuse involved prolonged contact with a juvenile victim and resulted in his being sentenced by a Suffolk County court.

Prior to this conviction, Benites Vasquez had been removed from the United States but returned without legal authorization. Following his recent conviction, ICE officers initiated enforcement action to detain him for removal proceedings. He is currently being held in ICE custody without bond pending a hearing before an immigration judge.
